2024-0222 Post 89 Purple Heart Flag Raising

Purple Heart Flag raised by Amvets post 89 on Washington’s Birthday

The raising of the Purple Heart flag was conducted on Feb 22 by Amvets (American Veterans) post 89 Beverly Hills to recognize Washington’s Birthday.. Commander Braglin stated The Purple Heart medal is presented to those members of the military who were wounded or killed in combat. In the case of a member of the military killed in combat the medal is given to their family.

President John F Kennedy was the only President that received the Purple Heart.

Florida Dept VFW Auxiliary First Vice President Mike Yates stated the Purple Heart Flag could be up all the time but normally it is raised Washington’s Birthday, August 7th the day President George Washington ordered the creation of the first military decoration known as the Badge of Military Might which became the Purple Heart, Memorial Day and Veteran’s Day
